Summary of the Tentative Agreement between MUTA and MJUSD

 * This is a three year contract, 2007-2010.

 * Effective July 1, 2007, the 2006/07 salary schedule shall be improved by 4.53% (this means a retro check in late June or early July).

 * For 2007-2008 there are no re-openers on salary; which means that if there is a negative COLA next year, the district would be unable to propose a pay cut. If there should happen to be a positive COLA in 2008-2009, we would have to wait until the following year to bargain for it.

 * Article VII defines the work year as 183 days.

 * Article VIII now includes the language standardizing the length of the work day for Grades K-8. This includes language from the MOU from 2006-2007 on the K-6 length of workday and adds the 7-8 length of workday. An additional section defines how “banked minutes” are to be utilized.

 * Articles X, XIV, and XV had minor corrections and changes for the sake of clarity.

 * Article F was corrected to reflect current practices concerning Home and Hospital Instruction and the Outdoor Education Program

 · ARTICLE XXXIV: SHARED ASSIGNMENTS, a new section that defines the procedures for who may share a contract and how to go about it. There is no language currently in the contract that deals with these issues.

 · The number of pay cycles has been reduced from five to two: an 11 month, August to June cycle, and a 12 month, August to July. You will be receiving a letter from the payroll department explaining the options and how to choose which plan you want.

 · An agreement was reached whereby unit members are not frozen at step thirteen and then held when moving over for two years.

 · The MOU’s (memorandum of understanding) for Extended Day Kindergarten and QEIA were extended.

The Marysville Unified Teachers Association and the Marysville Unified School District have come to a tentative agreement, resolving contract negotiations for this school year, 2007-2008. Many issues were negotiated and compensation was settled with the full COLA of 4.53% being put on the teachers’ salary schedule, retroactive to July 1, 2007. It is expected that, even though the management and classified have already settled with the District, they will probably get a “me too” bump to their salaries, due to the hard organizing work the teachers engaged in.

The President of MUTA said, “This settlement should have come months ago. Using the District’s own budget documents our consultant showed the District that they had the money to do this. However, we were still forced to hold informational picketing and District wide organizing before the District finally came through with this offer. The employees deserve a bigger raise than this, there is more money available, but MUTA offered this compromise due to the uncertain economic situation in California.”
